Hallucination in simple word is Probability Distribution

AI hallucination does not always lead to negative outcome. Many would like to believe that AI hallucinations has taken them on a path to scientific discovery. They are being seen as an innovative tool in science. While training on data sometimes when prompted for a response, the AI tool conjures up scenarios which sometimes lead to self-discovery.

According to a report in New York Times, James Collins, MIT professor was quoted saying that AI hallucination helped him speedup his research work, indicating that it can speed up the hypothesis process.

AI hallucination arise when scientists teach gen AI tools a particular subject and then let machine take over. A few months ago, David Baker of University of Washington who receive nobel prize for discovering new kind of protein, credited AI for helping him file over 100 patents, especially in medical care domain, in an interview to a news publication.

According to the report, while the general consensus on AI “hallucinations” – the generation of false information are concerning- scientists are increasingly recognising their potential for driving innovation and discovery in medicine and climate science.

Industry observers feel AI hallucination is nothing but probability distribution and can help promote new discoveries and exhibit creativity.
