X.AI launches API Feature for Grok Language Model

X.AI Corp, the Elon Musk promoted Artificial Intelligence company has expanded its offerings under product - Grok- by launching an API, providing developers access to its language models. This API supports function calling and features a 128,000-token context length, facilitating the integration of xAI's technology into various applications.

The company launched Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini to the Grok users on X platform in August 2024. The two products are language models with state of the art reasoning capability, are currently available in beta version.

According to a company press release Grok-2 has shown significant improvement in reasoning with retrieved content and in its tool use capabilities compared to other models such as Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT 4.

The tool shows higher level of reasoning through sequences of events, discards irrelevant posts efficiently and correctly identifies missing information.

"Both the products demonstrate significant improvement over previous Grok 1.5 model. They achieve performance levels competitive to other frontier models in areas like graduate level science knowledge and general knowledge. The newly launched version excels in vision based tasks, maths reasoning and document based questions," the press release said.

According to the company website, Corporation's mission is to understand the true nature of the universe.

xAI's team comprises experts from leading AI organizations, including former employees of OpenAI, DeepMind, Google, Microsoft, and Tesla.

In November 2023, xAI introduced its first product, Grok, a conversational AI integrated with the X platform. Grok is designed to engage in both serious and casual discussions, offering users a versatile conversational experience.
